Label TextDescended from a family of engravers, Charles-Nicolas Cochin fils studied with his father Cochin pere and later with Le Bas. The younger Cochin was elected to the Academy in 1741, and regularly exhibited his work in its annual Salon for the next four decades. In 1752 Cochin fils became keeper of drawings and paintings to the King. He was named secretary of the French Academy in 1755, and councillor in 1776. Cochin made over a thousand etchings, many of them book illustrations. Among his favorite subjects were festive occasions, court ceremonies, and portrait medallions of his famous contemporaries.ProvenancePaine Charitable Trust, Worcester, MAOn View
