Label TextJesse is identified as an important ancestor for Christ by Isaiah (9:15): "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse and a branch shall grow out of his roots." This prophecy found its visual expression in many works of art, including this carved wood panel. The figures on the various branches traditionally represent the ancestry of Christ.ProvenancePurchased from Grosvenor Thomas, London, UK
