DescriptionBlue faience, 33 large round beads separated by small glass beads.Label TextBall-bead necklaces composed of uniform beads were often worn in multiples during the Middle Kingdom. The most prized were beads made of precious metal (gold, silver, or electrum) and colored hardstones such as carnelian, garnet, and amethyst. Less labor intensive but equally compelling were strands of blue-glazed faience beads. These beads would have been strung on one or more strands of linen thread and then tied at the back of the neck. Each is timeless in design.ProvenanceFormerly of Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs Collection; bequeathed by Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs to the Worcester Art Museum, 1925–1926.
