Label TextSoon after meeting as art students in Vienna,
Austria, in 1933, Gertrud Amos and Otto Natzler
started working collaboratively as potters.
Gertrud formed the vessels, while Otto mixed and
developed the glazes. Fleeing Nazi occupation
during World War II, the married couple set up
their studio in Los Angeles, California. The
Natzlers quickly earned renown for their
thin-walled vessels and use of a pottery wheel at
a time when hand-building was the common
method. In this example, notice how the dripping
glaze interacts harmoniously with the gentle
curves of the asymmetrical bowl.
