Label TextHeavily influenced by the Symbolist movement and its poet-leader Stéphane Mallarmé (1842-1898), Odilon Redon used the technique of suggestion—as opposed to denotation—to conjure phantasmagoric and foreboding characters. Upon learning printmaking, Redon shifted much of his practice to lithography and etching because he liked the tonal effects he could achieve.
