Label TextAntonio del Massaro, called Pastura, was a native of the Town of Viterbo and so is sometimes referred to as Antonio da Viterbo. Another painter is also called by that name, however, so the use of "Pastura" avoids confusion. He is recorded working at Orvieto and Tarquinta, as well as in Viterbo, and was influenced by the work of Perugino. The composition of this picture is derived from a painting by Perugino in the Villa Albani in Rome. The attribution to Pastura has been supported by several critics.ProvenanceLevesque & Co., Paris France; sold to the Worcester Art Museum, 21 November 1914.
