Label TextAs mentioned by text in the print, it depicts a scene from act II of "Soga hi-iki Nihon zakura" as performed at the Nakamura Theater, Edo [second month and third months] 1762. Ichikawa Takejuro as Soga no Juro is shown mounted upon a black horse which his retainer Onio Shinzaemon, impersonated by Sakata Hangoro II(1724-1787; see Kabuki jinmei jiten, p. 274) is leading. The actors' names and their roles are included as well as the text of the chanted joruri accompaniment for the act are written above the figures.
