DescriptionThis Windsor armchair belongs to a set of four chairs, each with an unusual spindle formation that tapers at the top and is crowned with an inverted oxbow-like crest rail. The turned arm supports are both tenoned through the seat bottom, unlike the seven rear spindles and two side spindles under each arm which do not breach the bottom surface. There is a carved indentation on the saddle seat for comfort, and the four turned legs are tenoned through the seat. The 'H' stretchers are also turned, with thick knots in their centers for support at the joins and for decoration. Each chair has a green painted surface with some natural wood visible.
