DescriptionPrint no. 25 of the series: "Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces"
Label TextIn many provinces, the most famous places were Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples—popular as destinations for pilgrims and subjects for prints. Here, Hiroshige depicts a snowy Mount Haruna with pilgrims arriving and taking refreshment at the temple teahouse. The red temple and bridge set against the white wintry landscape creates a dramatic contrast.
