Label TextMahogany imported north from the Caribbean was typically reserved for fine furniture. Its straight grain and ease of workability made it highly coveted among colonial American furniture-makers. The restrained appearance of this Queen Anne highboy emphasizes its purpose as a functional object. The vertical cabriole legs rest on pad feet, while the knees lead to a modestly carved skirt embellished with a pair of pawn-shaped pendants. The lower case is fitted with one long and two short drawers and a fan-carved center drawer. The inset top section sits on carved mid-molding and is fitted with two short, one fan-carved, and four graduated long drawers, surmounted by a broken pediment with flame finials.
