DescriptionMahogany with inlay Hepplewhite sideboard on line inlaid square tapered legs; the case fitted with two bowed hinged doors surmounted by one long line inlaid drawer and two bowed end drawers; brasses replaced.Label TextThe serpentine profile of this mahogany sideboard exemplifies the sophisticated techniques of American furniture-makers by the end of the eighteenth century. Thin inlaid lines frame each constructed piece, imposing an effect of rectilinearity on curvilinear surfaces. The case is fitted with one long line drawer that casts a shadow on the recessed bowed doors below it. On either end, a bowed drawer surmounts a hinged door. The enclosed cabinets and drawers would have stored serving dishes or other goods appropriate for dining use.
