DescriptionPhotographer of record during the medical autopsy (conducted 2 or 3 days after the assassination) was John T. Stringer. His assistant Floyd Riebe was also present much of the time. Though it is unclear whether this photo was also taken as evidence at the time of the autopsy.

Duplicate from the National Archives.
Label TextTwo days after President Kennedy’s assassination, a medical autopsy took place in Washington, D.C. The photographer of record for the autopsy was Stringer, assisted by Floyd Riebe, who probably took this evidentiary photograph. The print is a duplicate from the National Archives, made later from one of the Stringer’s negatives, for the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Official prints, made for distribution to commission members and expert witnesses, are distinguished by their finish and rounded corners.ProvenanceDavid Davis
