Label TextThe Rolling Stones’ singer made his acting debut in "Performance", a crime drama directed by Nicolas Roeg. He plays a former rock star living with two women in a whirl of celebrity, sex, and drugs. An old friend, turned ruthless enforcer for an East London syndicate, hides in the house from the gang and a complex narrative of appetites, emotions, and violence unfolds. In 1968 Warner Brothers declined to distribute the dark, disturbing film. "Performance" was recut several times, and its Cockney accents were dubbed over, before its release in 1970.
