DescriptionSteel. Double-edge thrusting blade of flat section tapering to blunt point. Base of head with 2 addorsed pairs of cusped lugs. Conical socket of octagonal section with like moldings above & below. Base of socket attached via iron keys to similar section base, with langets.

Very tall staff, appears to be 19th c. naval boarding-pike with iron triangular-section thrusting spike & conical socket with langets. Wooden circular section shaft covered with worn modern velvet having tassels at top & bottom.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY), his no. 92. Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
