DescriptionIron. Tall quadrangular thrusting spike having pierced knop at base & flattened below. Flat, pierced fluke obliquely downturned & drawn into decorative cusps above & below. Large crescentic axe blade pierced & cusped as fluke. Flattened socket with langets, front & rear & closed at sides by another set, all of which are secured by iron square ring.

Decoratively carved wooden staff of oblong section studded with brass tacks overall & covered from base of langets over rest of length with coarse red cloth. Red tassel at base of head.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on April 17 1928 from Liberty & Co. Ltd., London, England, their #4 and 8318. Given to the Museum on December 15, 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
