DescriptionLong, trapezoidal steel plate perhaps tinned within, asymmetrically curved to the body, the curvature increasing as it wraps around the upper part of the leg. The top edge is followed by a row of 25 close-set brass rivets with heads cut as eight-pointed stars. This was probably the second lame from the top on the front right side of the skirt.A label from the 1885 inventory survives on the plate.
ProvenanceFortress of Xalkis (Eastern Mediterranean) (probably) National Historical Museum of Athens. Purchased by John W. Higgins on 28 September 1929, as part of lot number 3, from the estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Price of $200.00 paid for lot included 13 items (nos. 809.1-13). Given to the Museum on 15 December 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
