DescriptionSix tinned iron plates curved to the body, comprising two columns of three plates each, overlapping upwards. The proper right column plates are rectangular, with cut corners, that orient under the armpit. These are overlapped at the left end by parallelogram-form plates. The plates are secured to a coarse canvas facing by triangular clusters of three iron rivets, decorated with eight pointed star heads. Above each group is a fourth, single rivet. Vacant holes in the canvas indicate at least three lames lost from above and below the left column. A seam running down the right column indicates that the group was from the side of the brigandine at just above the hip.
Provenance(Perhaps) Fortress at Xalkis Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Purchased as part of lot no. 14 of the Bashford Dean estate on 28 September 1929. Purchase price of $15.00 for lot. Given to the Museum on 26 December 1946.
