DescriptionThis is essentially identical in all respects to HAM# 992.a, with which it appears to form a pair.Polished iron. Arched frame, sides expand into circularly notched terminals at the tread. Sides with shell-like recessed flutes accented by incised line on each rib, & file marks at side edges. Top of frame decorated with incised "X"s between framing pair of thin lines & notched at edges. Oval, fixed suspension ring with flat plinth as base. Oblong, open tread plate with 3 cross-braces expanded at notched mid-width. Ends of plate cut with file-marks & notched.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on October 15, 1929 from estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY), his no. 5ab. Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, Janaury 2104.
