DescriptionHeavy links of triangular cross-section c. 9mm interior diameter, around chest; lighter ones toward periphery. Riveted links are large, cusped on the inside, and triangular in cross section, solid ones are round and smaller. Heavier links at the chest. Sleeves are mid-length and cusped. Numerous working-life repairs. Some links are very worn, with a few losses, but good condition overall.Label TextLike many of the best Asian mail shirts, this one has heavy rings over the chest for extra protection, with lighter ones over the legs and arms for better mobility. Riveted links alternate with solid ones (probably hammer-welded) to make this mail especially strong.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on July 14, 1928 from Fenton & Sons, Ltd., London, England. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
