DescriptionRiveted mail coat with plate belly and flank defences. In front are two large belly plates, each with 3 frogs for fastening ties; these are in the shape of fish. Adjointing the belly plates are 2 smaller flank plates. 3 rows of lamellar plates on back, with flank plates to either side, as on the front. The central row of lamellae are scalloped and formed to the spine; the side rows are more perfunctory in execution. Cusped long sleeves. About 45 cm wide at chest (flattened).

Riveted mail of large, loose-weave links with internal cusps. Differentiated links in different areas, very likely recycled from older sources. Skirts and sleeve links of round cross-section, riveted, with interior cusps, rivets almost invisible, links worn and probably quite old. Mail on chest is similar, but heavier and all riveted. Plate components are apparently secured with butted or overlapped, de-riveted links.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on April 20, 1931 from Fenton & Sons, Ltd., London, England. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
