DescriptionThe tassets are adorned with incised lines and decorative brass rivets. They are asymmetrical to overlap at the crotch. The latchets are associated and perhaps composite; the two tassets are probably a pair, though associated to the breastplate, to judge by the difference in the surface texture. Assembly holes are present at the upper corners. The pocked surface could be the result of cleaned corrosion, though it raises the possibility of deliberate aging. Internal paint matches that of the breastplate.
These are of better quality than other components of the harness.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins in July 1930 from York Galleries, Mr. Theodore Offerman, NYC. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
