DescriptionPauldrons: symmetrical & rounded. Right pauldron of mainplate plus 2 above and 3 below. Borders roped. Topmost lame fitted with buckle for strap to colletin, lowest lame with slot for turning pin of arm-harness. Etched oval cartouche containing mythical creatures, women, armed warriors, lions, all formerly gilt on decorated band. Predates the L pauldron, which was made to match it; possibly dating to 1850-1900.
ProvenanceFelix Joubert of London sold to Clarence H. Mackay in 1922. Purchased by John W. Higgins from Jacques Seligman & Co., NY (agents for Mackay) on 18 July 1939. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
