DescriptionRobust thrusting tip; surface has been heavily ground. 2 languets; floating languets fore and aft. Collar around top of langets at base of head. Staff likely original, with molding at corners; square x-section. Rear fluke bent slightly sideways; some rust; some abrading of the shaft.Label TextHalberds had been an important battlefield weapon in the late Middle Ages, but by the time this one was made they were increasingly serving as badges of rank. The axehead and beak on this one have become largely decorative, and only the thrusting tip remains functional.
