Label Text2006-03-04: Table Screen with Mountain Landscapes Nephrite; Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911), mid 18th century Gift of Maria and John Dirlam, 1996.131 Screens helped the scholar focus on his calligraphy and protected the unrolled work from ink splashes. Inspired by visions of the lofty realms of Taoist immortals, this screen of translucent nephrite is decorated with scenes of scholars and assistants living in the mountains, climbing towards mountain pavilions.
