Label TextThis single-page drawing is mounted with an illuminated blue border for inclusion in an album. The inscription on the bottle, "work of Muhammad Qasim," is correct but the accompanying date "952" (1545 A.d.) is incorrect. Muhammad Qasim (d. 1659) was a poet and celebrated draftsman who produced manuscript paintings as well as many single-page drawings of court figures, a form popularized by his teacher Riza 'Abassi. The costume worn by this young woman is also represented in many European visitors to the Safavid court, who identified it as Georgian.ProvenanceDemotte, New York NY
