Label TextAlbers began his signature Homage to the Square series in 1950. In each image three or four squares nest inside each other, gravitating towards the bottom of the composition. The early Homage images disproved old color theories with adventurous combinations. Later they became more subtle in hue and gradation. Albers intended that the viewer find a heightened sense of color in these subtle images.ProvenancePurchased from G. W. Einstein, New York, NY
