DescriptionRound shield of very light steel with four bosses; ornamented with a damascened design of conventionalized flower and leaf forms in gold and silver koftgari. Lined with red fabric.Label TextThis shield features silver and gold inlay executed in the "koftgari" technique common in Indo-Persian arms and armor. Koftgari involves lightly cross-hatching the underlying metal and hammering gold or silver wire into the roughened surface to create the decoration.ProvenanceHelen White Sargent, Worcester
