DescriptionImperial; rev. Gordian sacrificing at an altar; The antoninianus coin was introduced by Caracalla in the early 3rd century. It is distinguished from the denarius because the portrait heads have radiate crowns. By the time of Gordian, it had become debased to a copper coin with a silver wash. This expample is unusual in that the wash is still well preserved.ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Mark Salton
