Label TextWhen Leary was at work on the Harvard Psilocybin Project in the early 1960s, the poet Allen Ginsberg asked to join as an experiment subject. Both men shared the hope that psychoactive substances might help people discover higher levels of consciousness. They became friends, and introduced other intellectuals and artists to these possibilities. They were together in Golden Gate Park in January in 1967 when the "Human Be-In" celebrated the growing counterculture, and the prospects for peace and social harmony through personal development. On View
