Label TextThe “Human Be-In” was a counterculture arts festival held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on January 14, 1967. Celebrants demonstrated their opposition to a new California law banning the psychoactive drug LSD. The festival included art exhibitions and concerts by Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and the Grateful Dead. Gary Snyder and Allen Ginsberg read their poetry. Jerry Rubin lectured on social justice, and Timothy Leary spoke on personal consciousness proclaiming “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out.”On View
