DescriptionThis Empire style side chair has many stylistic qualities of the Greek Revival design movement. It has a square back with a straight but carved crest rail, decorated with a scrolls on its "ears" and rounded on the side edges. The edges of the crest rail's front surface are beaded, as is the front surface of the single slat. Both are joined to the rear stiles, which curve into the seat rail and are also beaded on either side of their top surfaces. The front of the seat rail is beveled and attached to the side rails, which come to a point above the front seat rail on either side. The upholstery of the trapezoidal seat has been replaced. The front legs are turned in the Trumpet style and attached to the seat rail with a through tenon, and the rear Sabre legs are also attached to the seat rail.On View
