DescriptionIron. Shallow, & shaped to top of horse's head with a medial ridge from mid-upper face. Elongated polygonal outline, with boxish lower half that has pair of deep, wide medial flutes expanding to pointed nose. Between eyes the face is embossed with T-shaped device, thrice slotted above. Perimeter is pierced with holes for mail & perhaps lining. There are sets of 3 holes in a row, probably for straps, at the top of the head, below each ear, and at either cheek.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
