DescriptionWide head with recurved bevelled cutting edge terminated in curved fluke. Opposed by triangular spike welded at right angle to back edge. Acute quadrangular-section apical thrusting spike in line with back. Tall open socket, basal ends overlapped on reverse. Restored wooden octagonal-section staff studded on upper half with domed, brass-capped tacks. Straight unshod butt.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Given to the Museum on December 15, 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
