DescriptionIron. Tall double-edge triangular blade of hollow ground, lozenge section tapering to rounded point. Base of blade with pair of small curved lugs, integral tall conical socket with knob below head & fitted near base of socket with transverse pair of lugs resembling acorns, pair of long langets secured to approximately 4' of original circular section wooden staff studded with brass nails & rosettes. Scarf jointed replacement section of staff below.

Lower 1/3 of both faces of head decorated with etched ascending foliate tendrils within thin strapwork framing on once gilded plain ground. Traces of what may be date 1657 above decoration both faces, flanked by grotesque dolphin-like creatures on 1 face. Knob & section of socket above carved with acanthus leaves. Socket below decorated over all with finely etched foliate tendrils.
