DescriptionTwo forward tines, one of square section, the other bladelike; 1 reverse tine of square section. Welded to round socket with 2 langets mounted on an octagonal staff. Metal blackened with paint from weld downward.
Label TextThe military fork was one of a number of agricultural tools that were modified for war. A variation of the peasant's pitchfork, the military fork was often fitted with recurved spiked that could be used to pull at an opponent, or to aid in scaling fortifications.ProvenanceMetropolitan Museum of Art collection.
