DescriptionBlack-painted steel. Round skull of 2 overlapping longitudinal halves riveted at peaks, and turned over (right over left) along the tall, narrow comb. The skull is rounded and squat. Integral narrow brim curving up to pointed ends, downturned at the sides. Crude iron plume-pipe at rear. Domed iron lining-rivets with brass rosette washers encircle base of skull. Brim edge crimped inward, with half round plain turn. Small empty holes on left and right side of brim. The helmet is painted on the outside in a semi-gloss black paint.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on February 11, 1928 from Anderson Galleries (NY), sale no. 2232, lot no. 342. Given to the Museum on January 8, 1947. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
