DescriptionTwo overlapping rectangular steel plates slightly curved to the body, each pierced with a row of four holes at the ends. These are filled with riveted mail links which also link the plates to one another. One plate is pierced with a horizontal group of two holes at center, possibly where a strap was once fitted. At one edge of both lames is a domed copper-alloy rivet retaining a segment of coarsely woven dark fabric.
ProvenanceProbably Fortress of Xalkis (Eastern Mediterranean) (probably) National Historical Museum of Athens. Purchased by John W. Higgins on 28 September 1929, as part of lot number 3, from the estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Price of $200.00 paid for lot included 13 items (nos. 809.1-13). Given to the Museum on 15 December 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
