DescriptionBlack-painted steel or iron, very heavy. High-waisted & slab-sided, with curved, outwardly turned neck & arms (neck & left arm edges broken). Slight medial ridge, full-length. Oblong, tongued buckles riveted at shoulders. Surface with 8 bullet dents overall, 1 perhaps a proofmark. Downturned basal flange (left end repaired). Associated fauld of black-painted steel, possibly restored. Single lame with pair of straps for tassets.

Internal repair at left waist. Right shoulder buckle has become detached.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Fortress Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria purchased by John W. Higgins on March 1, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY), their no. 103. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
