DescriptionBlack-painted steel, with traces of red lead paint within. Preserves original coarsely woven fabric lining (canvas?) & buff leather attachment border sewn to perimeter. Fabric has been repaired and patched. Plate is high-waisted, with low medial ridge extending from just below neck to level waist flange. Proof mark on medial ridge at just above mid-height. Narrow, deep neck opening & deep arm openings. Pair of domed rivets on upper chest for shoulder straps & pair of "L"-shaped hooks at basal sides.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Fortress Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria Purchased by John W. Higgins on March 3, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY), their no. 668. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
