MarkingsE1277 on brass tag wired to stud at waist; traces of ink-stamped block letters "LE..." on lining at lower center. Interior left lining with black ink script "Corp Vogl", twice, in 2 different hands.

DescriptionIdentical in media, form & construction to HAM 260 (deaccessioned). Blackened steel, overpainted at least once, with coarsely woven lining (canvas?) & thick white buff leather around perimeter. Tall & outwardly curved along low, full-length medial ridge. Deeply curved along openings at neck & arms. Level basal edge, above which are "L"-shaped hooks & centered domed stud to retain waist strap. Large domed studs on chest near shoulders for shoulder straps.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Fortress Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria purchased by John W. Higgins on March 4, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY); their no. 722A and 666. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
