DescriptionPart of a group consisting of WAM 2014.1136, 2014.960, and 2014.73.
Label TextA knight's war saddle was often armored with a "pommel plate" in front and a "cantle plate" in back, decorated to match the rider's armor. The plates protected the knight's groin and thighs.Provenance(Probably) Galerie Fischer, auctioned 1936 with shaffron WAM 2014.73; subsequently separated. Purchased at auction by Museum on January 16, 1968 from the Fischer Galleries (Luzerne, Switzerland). Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
