DescriptionCoat length shirt, slit to crotch for riding. Sleeves are short to mid-length with traces of braided leather edging. Collar portion has been married to the body at some point--the connecting rings have been opened up. This suggests a modern alteration, since it compromises functionality.

Links on body have flattened cross-section, those on sleeves are of round cross-section. Some of the links have worn very thin from use. Links on skirts are lighter. Round rivets, slightly proud. Links are riveted, diameter c. 10mm ext, 8mm int. Brass rings at the collar with smaller brass finishing links. Both sleeves have brazing on the rivets. Portions of the mail could be European, and some could be rather old.
Label TextThis shirt has the remains of leather edging on the cuffs, and decorative brass rings around the collar with smaller finishing rings connecting them. The rings on the sleeves have been soldered with brass, an easier but less sturdy closure than the rivets used on the body.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on April 27, 1930 from Fenton & Sons, Ltd., London, England, their no. 3862L/L/. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory Museum to the Worcester Art Museum, January 2014.
