Label TextAs with the parallel between Japanese and ancient Etruscan mail, the story of mail armor is full of parallel evolution. This Asian collar strongly resembles the one being manufactured by the medieval French mailmaker in the adjacent image, although the styles seem to have evolved quite independently. These kinds of independent similarities can make it very difficult to identify the date and origins of individual pieces.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on May 1, 1931 from W.O. Oldman (London, England). Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
