DescriptionSteel, once blued & for left hand. Of form for foot combat or tourney. Wide, slightly flared cuff of 2 riveted pieces, having inwardly turned plain edges. Opening followed by row of domed, once-gilded rivets & double row of punched concentric circles. Single row of circles follows curve at inside of wrist. Wristplate & 5 metacarpal lames bluntly pointed at riveted ends. Knuckle plate embossed at fingers. Complete thumb & most finger scales preserved; all overlap towards wrist. Gauntlet retains what may be original leather glove & velvet-covered loop at cuff.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, New York), his # 68. Given to the Museum January 8, 1947.. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
