DescriptionFormerly black from the hammer. Riveted, 2-piece, flared & pointed cuff. All edges turned & roped. Elbow edge has domed rivets with pieces of leather strap (and a fragment of the glove) remaining within. Interior of wrist is boxed. 7 lames over back of hand. Lames 1-6 with straight edge having 2 parallel lines near edge. Raised roped rib across knuckleplate, with recesses for fingers, each with 2 lines near edge. Finger scales riveted to leathers & decorated with engraved pairs of lines. Terminal lame of each rounded with recessed chevron & prominent rivet. Thumb plate hinged to 6th metacarpal lame. Plate is lozenge-shaped with strong medial ridge. Scales treated as those of fingers.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Given to the Museum on January 8, 1947. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
