Label TextThe costume of the sitter in this portrait seems to identify him as an ecclesiastic, but beyond that he remains anonymous. The attribution to Ridolfo remains open to question, partially because Ridolfo's work has not been studied extensively and his style remains somewhat undefined.
Ridolfo was the son of the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio, who died in 1494. Ridolfo studied with his uncle, Davide Ghirlandaio and with Fra Bartolomeo. He had an active workshop and is recorded especially as a portraitist.ProvenanceEhrich Galleries, New York NYOn View
