Goddard, 1938.13 The colors of nephrite are caused by varying quantities of iron, one of its fundamental components, as well as by the presence of small quantities of impurities such as manganese and chromium. Compared to white nephrite, which contains minimal amounts of iron, dark spinach-green nephrite imported from Siberia contains a high degree of iron.
