Label TextBartolomeo Cincani, called Montagna, was active mostly at Vicenza. He is recorded in Venice in 1469 and probably formed his style while there.
This picture shows the influence both of Venetian artists, notably Giovanni Bellini, and of others, especially a print by Andrea Mantegna. This painting is considered an early work, probably dating from the 1480s. The plain dark background is unusual, but an x-ray photograph of part of it reveals no hidden detail.ProvenanceDott.
