DescriptionTrumpet lip. Mustard yellow crackle, interior of neck and rim glazed in Camellia-leaf green. Formerly in Morgan Porcelain Collection. Vol. II, Chinese Porcelains, J.P. Morgan, Plate CXVIII, No. 1311, page 79; Yongzheng EraLabel TextThe unusual exterior surface effect was achieved by first covering the vase with a high-fired, stone-colored crackled glaze. After firing, this crackled glaze was covered with a translucent yellow enamel glaze. The bright camellia-leaf green of the lip and interior—most likely created by adding copper to a yellow leadantimony glaze—was also applied before re-firing the vase at a lower temperature. The bright green glaze was used for only a short time, during the Yongzheng period and early in the succeeding Qianlong period (1736–1795); it was both difficult and dangerous to use, poisoning potters and patrons alike.ProvenanceDuveen Brothers, New York
