Label TextInfluenced by the quickly evolving urban landscape before and after the Great Depression (1929-39), depictions of New York City and its residents characterize much of Marsh's work. The other side of this watercolor features a detailed preparatory drawing for Tessie’s Bridal Shop. On both sides of the work, the man’s newspaper is dated October 2, 1946. It reports that the day before, the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg had passed verdicts on Nazi leaders accused of conspiracy, crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. During World War II, Marsh served as a war correspondent for Life magazine.ProvenanceThe artist, 1946-54; The artist's widow, Felicia Meyer marsh, 1954-78; donated to the Worcester Art Museum, 1979.On View
